Amazon.com Review There are many inexpensive scientific calculators on the market, but few boast the two-line display and other advanced features users get with the TI-30x IIS. The display shows the equation you are creating on the top line, and the numbers or symbols you are currently entering on the second line. Once the equation is solved, the results are displayed on the second line, and you can use the four arrow keys on the front of the calculator to edit the original equation in any way you like for a recalculation. Better still, pressing the up arrow repeatedly lets you browse through a cache of dozens of previous calculations, meaning you can look back to see the answer to a problem you solved two minutes ago, two days ago, or whenever. The device uses solar power when possible but can fall back on the internal batteries (which are included) if there isn't enough light. The buttons wiggle around a little too much and require a firm keystroke to register input, but the fact that input can be followed by looking at the output on the first line helps to cut down on mistakes. There is a shift key that doubles the functions of most buttons, and although the TI-30X IIS isn't festooned with as many buttons or functions as some other calculators we've tested in this price range, it's still very capable. There are three angle modes (degrees, radians, and grads), scientific and engineering notation modes, and even one- or two-variable statistical modes. Five variables can also be assigned to their own memory slots. The documentation is lacking, as everything is presented on a single folded sheet of paper, but Texas Instruments did manage to pack several illustrated examples on the page. The calculator comes with a snap-on cover that fits on the back of the device when you are using it. The calculator carries a one-year limited warranty. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: - Two-line display
- Relatively inexpensive
- Handles one- and two-variable statistical calculations
Cons: - Weak documentation
- Buttons wiggle a bit too much

Love these calculators July 23, 2010 A. Busch (New Hampshire) Bought a bunch of these calculators to put in drawers in my office, kitchen, desk, etc.
I first got hooked on the TI-30xII in college when my TI-86 graphing calculator died. I didn't need another $100+ grapher but loved their ability to call up old functions and see my entire equation written out (and editable) before computing it. The TI-30xII fits that bill entirely without being expensive or overburdened with excessive features.
Only negative is that you can't change the screen contrast, but other than that I don't forsee ever buying a different kind of calculator.
It's an excellent calculator. July 13, 2010 Patrick Loveless It works as well as most other scientific calculators. Its interface is very convenient, allowing you to plot out your equation and see the answer once you've pushed the equal sign. And you aren't left guessing as to wether you are in degrees or radians mode - you see it for yourself on the calculator's screen.
Another very spiffy, and very affordable, product from TI.

From reading most peoples bad reviews, they seem to want a standard scientific calculator. THIS IS NOT A STANDARD SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR AND NOT A GRAPHING CALCULATOR.
The purpose of this calculator is to replace your TI-83 or 84 if you can't use a graphing calculator on a test. The idea is that it has the same layout as those graphing calculators. Personally, I love my TI-84 and hate that I can't use it on tests, and I hated practicing to use a standard scientific calculator. One of my friends had this calculator and I borrowed it, tried it for two minutes, and was like "What the hell have I been wasting my time around with other calculators for."
Bottom line: Buy this calculator if you can't use your 84 on a test.
It's just okay March 29, 2010 ThatPoshGirl (Reno, NV) This is my third Texas Instruments calculator. I also have a TI-84 and a Voyage 200, both of which I love. I bought this one because I needed a no-frills scientific calculator for my Diff Eq class. I didn't have a lot of money to spend, so this one seemed to fit the bill. I wish I had gone to a bricks and mortar store and tried it against some other ones, though. It has all the functions I want, including storing the previous answer, but the buttons don't always register a key press. It is really frustrating to be in the middle of a test and have the calculator get temperamental. It is especially bad when I don't notice it happened and mess up a problem because the button didn't register. It's not an issue with the buttons being difficult to press, either. The button presses just don't get picked up some times.
